Huntington-USC Institute: Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Associate in the History of Aerospace
The Huntington-USC Institute on California and the West (ICW) and the Department of History at the University of Southern California seek applications from recent PhDs for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in aerospace history, beginning in the fall of 2018. The Institute on California and the West is a research and teaching collaboration between the Huntington Library and the University of Southern California (www.usc.edu/icw).
The postdoctoral position will include research and teaching obligations at USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts & Sciences. The postdoctoral fellowship is part of the Aerospace History Project, which is documenting the history of Southern California aerospace through acquisition of archival collections, scholarly publication, and oral history. The project embraces a variety of scholarly perspectives, from technology to labor, social history, race, gender, popular culture, and the environment. The Postdoctoral Fellow will pursue her/his own research and will also contribute to the project by assisting with the oral history program and collection development opportunities. The Fellow will also teach three undergraduate courses across the two years of the appointment. Candidates should have a background in aerospace or Cold War history; history of science and technology; history of California and the West; or relevant fields; experience with oral history is desirable. Candidates must have completed their PhD by August 2018. Fellows will be hired as University of Southern California employees and receive university benefits and a competitive salary.
