Ramya Swayamprakash is currently pursuing a Master’s in Urban Design at Lawrence Tech in Southfield, MI, USA. She has been a research fellow at Yale (2012-13). Her research interests are large water bureaucracies, cities, water, and fish. Her article on engineers in the Central Water Commission in India was published in Water History in 2014. She has conducted some preliminary research on the effect of the coming of the Mettur Dam on the Cauvery river in southern India and its effect on fisheries in the first half of the 20th century. Her current research interest revolve around the disconnect between rivers as they are ‘designed’ through plans and on papers, and rivers as they flow.
