SHOT and Social Media
As a leading organization promoting the historical interpretation of technology in its many forms and contexts, it is vital today that the Society for the History of Technology (SHOT) reach its community of scholars and the interested public via social media. Going forward, this will include regular updates of SHOT member activities on Facebook. This will also entail ongoing announcements on Twitter of SHOT activities, exposure for articles in the society’s journal Technology and Culture and the digital essays in Technology’s Stories, and insights on events of the day related to the history of technology. Additionally, SHOT will begin supporting blogging, video shorts, and a podcast series drawing on interviews with leading scholars in the field. This digital content–in multiple formats–will deepen the scholarly community’s knowledge of trends in the field, while also introducing the history of technology to interested audiences in science, policy, industry, and popular history.
