Natalia Nikiforova is a senior lecturer at the Saint-Petersburg State Polytechnical University of Russia. She defended her PhD entitled “The Concept of “Technology” in Cultural Researches of the 20th century” in 2011. The main interest was in the meanings of “technology” in connection with the problems of society and culture, in symbolical implications of technology in political rhetoric and public discourse. Her current research interests are concentrated on the cultural history of electricity in 19th century Russia, particularly in the electrification of Russian imperial residences and court ceremonies, the usage of electricity in representation of emperors’ power.
